What is Subclass 870 Visa
Do you have any children or grandchildren staying in Australia who are permanent residents or valid citizen of the country? Or are you related by birth to an eligible New Zealand citizen? If you wish to come together with your progeny, the Department of Home Affairs of Australia provides a visa that makes it possible for a temporary period. The Subclass 870 visa is a temporary visa which allows a parent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen visit Australia for up to three (3) or five (5) years.
It provides parents and grandparents with a pathway to reunite and spend time together, in Australia, for a continuous period of up to five years.
Certain restrictions accompany the Sponsored Parent Visa Subclass 870. The applicant is not permitted to work in Australia or be a part of any extremist group or activity that threatens the Australian community or any other community in Australia. The applicant will also have to apply online for this visa, maintain adequate health insurance, and leave before the visa period expires.
Requirements Of Temporary Parent Visa 870
To apply for the Parent Visa Subclass 870, you must meet the following requirements.
- You must provide certified copies of your Passport.
- Providing a national identity card will also be necessary. If there is any name change proof, submit that, too.
- If the Department of Home Affairs gives sponsorship approval, they will provide you with a Permission to Apply letter, which you will be required to attach along with the application.
- Character documents are one of the most essential 870 Visa requirements you must submit. Ensure you obtain clearance certificates issued by the Australian Federal Police and police departments of all the countries you have lived in for at least 12 months in the last 10 years.
- Medical examination reports will confirm that you are in good health.

Sponsorship And Its Eligibility Criteria
Sponsors must follow specific criteria, such as:
- Must Meet character requirements
- Demonstrate a minimum household income of $83,454.80 in the previous completed financial year. The salary of the child’s partner and/or siblings (if in Australia) can be combined to meet this amount
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Must Have met any previous sponsor obligations
- Hold Australian citizenship, PR, or be an eligible New Zealand citizen
- Have no outstanding public health or debts to the Commonwealth, unless payment arrangements are in place
- Provide police clearances if required
- Agree to share information with the visa applicant
If sponsors do not comply with obligations, they may be prevented from sponsoring others in the future or have their sponsorship approval canceled.
