Victoria is vying to welcome back international students and workers next month under a state government plan to support its COVID-19 economic recovery.
Victoria would accept more than 100 international students next month under a plan in which new arrivals would quarantine in a set-up similar to the Australian Open tennis tournament.
The plan would see the state accept 120 arrivals per week from May 24, as well as overseas students and workers expected for major events or stage/screen creations.
The arrivals would be accommodated in a separate hotel quarantine capacity to returned Australians, with the agreements assumed to be similar to those applied for the Australian Open.
The new arrivals would pay more than the $3000 fortnightly cost per adult paid by returning Australians.
A final fee would be set all through discussion with appropriate industries. The program would use on an industry/user pays standard, with relevant industries/sectors giving funding to support campaign costs, the detail also read.
The international students would not affect Victoria’s international traveler cap of 1000 arrivals weekly.
The program would be issue to the same health and safety procedures as the system for returned Australian entrances. Students would also be imperiled to the same coronavirus testing procedure as in the typical quarantine hotel program.
Quarantine workers must have accepted at least their initial dose of COVID-19 vaccine in order to be hired.
